John Topper was born on April 11, 1771, the son of Andrew and Anna Marie Riffel Topper. According to the Goshehoppen Catholic Register, John Tapper of Andrew and Anna Marie Tapper was born and baptized on April 11, 1771. The sponsors of is baptism were Elizabeth and John Tapper. John is listed in the 1802 Assessent of Hamiltonban Township as John Tapper. From 1807 to 1842 he is listed as a property holder of 170 acres in Liberty Township, Adams County. John and his wife, Elizabeth Storm,, resided on Tract Road in Liberty Township, near the Liberty Hall Schoolhouse. Although they were risidents of Adams County, they were members of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Emmitsburg. They were the baptism sponsors of several children, including several of their grandchildren. Their deaths were recorded in the church register as "old Mr. John Topper, who died yesterday" was interred on February 18, 1847. Elizabeth Topper died September 16 and was buried on September 18, 1866 at the age of 97 years. John and Elizabeth were interred at St. Joseph's Catholic Churchyard. Their graves and tombstones are directly behind the chuch. The inscription on their tombstones read as follows: John Topper died February 16, 1847, in the 77th year of his age.
